Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?

We’re fully mobile! We’re currently available for private and commercial bookings. You can also catch us most Saturdays at the Scarborough Sunset Markets.

How much do your services cost?

We want to make our sauna accessible as possible, so we’ll tailor the cost to your specific needs. Please send us a message to have a chat about pricing for your booking.

How much space do you need?

Löyly is 5.4m long, which is about the length of a large ute. We’ll also need space for the generators and ice baths if you choose to include them. We suggest a minimum space of about 7m long and 4m wide. We can alter the setup to suit your space if needed.

How many people can the sauna fit?

Eight. Löyly can fit six people very comfortably. Depending on how friendly everyone is, we can fit another two quite easily.

Is your sauna traditional or infrared?

We have opted for a traditional Finnish sauna. We love the instant heat and ability to introduce a burst of steam with a ladle of water over the hot rocks. We believe this is the best way to experience the true ‘löyly’.

What is ‘löyly’?

Pronounced Louu-lou, originally this word also meant spirit or life but these days, löyly has come to mean specifically, sauna steam. A cloud of steam. Löyly is the envelope of heat and steam that surrounds you in the sauna as water is poured on the hot rocks.

How hot does your sauna get?

We like it hot! Our sauna often sits at a toasty 90 degrees celsius. We have installed a larger heating unit to make up for the frequent opening and closing of the sauna door. If you and your sauna buddies are brave, you can throw some water on the hot rocks to really bring the heat.

Where can you set up?

Unlike other mobile saunas, we run our sauna off of portable generators. This allows us to operate almost anywhere and with the proper permissions, even on public land. We will just need a small patch of earth/soil/grass nearby to install an earth stake into the ground to ensure the electrical system on the trailer can safely operate. If you are opting to include our ice baths then we will just need a tap close by. We have quite a long hose, so it’s usually no dramas.

Are you insured?

Yep! We are fully insured, with a public liability cover of 10 million dollars.

Are saunas safe?

Yes - saunas are completely safe. However, people with uncontrolled high blood pressure, heart disease and pregnant women should check with their doctors before taking a sauna. Here are some general precautions: Avoid alcohol and medications that may impair sweating and produce overheating before and after your sauna.

What's the difference between infrared and traditional saunas?

The main distinctions between conventional or traditional saunas and infrared saunas stem from differences in their heating methods and temperatures. Infrared saunas are characterised by a milder heat that is radiated to the body at a lower temperature. In contrast, classic or traditional saunas utilise steam or dry heat to warm up the room and produce a more intense heat.

What is the ideal time to spend in a sauna?

The recommended duration for a sauna session is typically 30 minutes to an hour. However, the optimal time can vary depending on personal preferences.
